Spam Information

What is SPAM?

In the olden days, when things were simpler, SPAM was exclusively a canned meat product.   Today, SPAM is also unwanted, unsolicited electronic junk mail.

Here is a web page with some general information about SPAM:

Why do I get so much more SPAM than my co-workers?

The 3 most common ways to guarantee you will get lots of SPAM are:

1.      Subscribe to receive newsletters, list serves, coupons, inspirational messages, jokes, recipes, etc.

2.      Have your e-mail address listed on a web page.  Even if the item on the web page is just text, and the e-mail address is hidden in the HTML programming, the programs that the Spammers use to crawl websites and harvest e-mail addresses can get them.

3.      Fill out online application forms (outside SISD) that include your e-mail address.

If you participate in any one of the above 3 items, you greatly escalate your chances of receiving SPAM.
